Power lines and poles will soon be underground in large parts of Mt Albert as work begins on a significant undergrounding project in October.
Entrust chairman, William Cairns said the work spanned the area between the Mt Albert shops and Unitec Campus and was the most significant undergrounding project undertaken in Auckland for several years.
“Entrust is committed to undergrounding because it makes a real difference to residents and so we’re pleased this significant project will soon be underway in the historic suburb of Mt Albert,” he said.
“Entrust has an arrangement with Vector that requires an average of $10.5 million to be invested in undergrounding and other projects in the Entrust district every year.
More than $170m has been invested in the programme since it commenced and has included a significant amount of undergrounding throughout the Entrust district, the Future of Energy solar initiative and the rollout of EV chargers,” he said.
The undergrounding project in Mt Albert covers the streets bordered by New North Road, Carrington Road, the Unitec campus, and Harbutt and Phyllis Reserves. By the time the project is finished in early 2021, approximately 10.2 kms of overhead lines and more than 300 poles will be removed from the Mt Albert area.
